Yvonne Arlott Woodturning Artist
Yvonne gained GCE A levels in maths, further maths, physics and computing, earning her a place at Exeter University reading Mathematics. She moved to Cornwall in 1998 and whilst taking a gap year discovered she had a natural flair for wood turning and decided to pursue it as her chosen career.

At the age of 22, barely three years after taking her first tentative steps into wood turning, Yvonne underwent an assessment and was accepted and entered onto the Register of Professional Turners supported by the Worshipful Company of Turners. Subsequent to being entered on the register, 'Woodturning', an international magazine, profiled her in a four-page article. Yvonne received a lot of positive feedback from the article from as far afield as America and her popularity internationally, has continued to grow since then.
Yvonne won an award three years in a row in an international woodturning competition and several of her pieces have appeared in 'Woodturning' magazine at different times.
Yvonne's work has appeared on television a number of times and BBC's Spotlight television also filmed a piece on her as part of an ongoing series featuring prominent West Country artists.

Yvonne turns pieces ranging in size from just a few millimetres to large platters, her real love though is artistic work which she is now concentrating on more and more. Her range of hand crafted wooden forms is constantly evolving, with the beauty of an individual piece of wood often inspiring her to produce new shapes and designs. The forms are of a high standard and quality reflecting Yvonne's depth of expertise and passion for the medium of wood. Collectors buy her work as far afield as Japan, Australia, the USA and Canada as well as in the EEC.
The timber Yvonne uses comes from managed forests and although she does use some exotic timbers, most is of UK origin. Indeed the majority of the timber is now being sourced in the green state from locally grown trees, which have had to be felled, the timber then being seasoned by herself.
As well as artistic work Yvonne regularly undertakes commissions ranging from restoration work to turned and carved parts for furniture. If you would like to commission a piece or find out more information about Yvonne and her work please visit Yvonne's website where she can also be contacted through the contact form.
